AT&T Customers Report Major Outage, Disrupting Phone Service Across US

AT&T and Cricket went down for many of its customers across the United States on Thursday, the company confirmed, as numerous customers reported an outage.

Although Verizon and T-Mobile customers reported some network outages, too, they appeared far less widespread. T-Mobile said its network was unaffected by AT&T’s service outage and customers reporting outages may have been unable to reach customers who use AT&T.

“Me and my wife are in the same ATT account. My phone is in SOS mode but hers is not. She has a much older phone. Maybe only newer phone models affected?”

More than 800 service outages were also reported on T-Mobile and Verizon, although a spokesperson for the latter put it down to users reporting problems trying to call people with other services.

Others reported issues on smaller carriers including Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular and Straight Talk Wireless.

This isn’t a one-time thing. For the last few weeks, both iPhone and Android phones are misbehaving for me and several people I know. Some examples:

  • old texts appearing unread
  • Calls not going through
  • Calls going through to voicemail and then, even after vm message starts, the person picks up and you start talking to them
  • voicemail counter showing like there is a voicemail but there isn’t any
  • phone turning on by itself without anyone touching it
    etc.
