Without owning one and researching what might be the best for a starter mobile or base station radio this is what I decided on.

You want more power and coverage. Think about setting up a base station at your HQ. I would recommend a Midland MXT500 radio and a Yaesu 1023A power supply that would power it inside of your house. You can attach it to a outside antenna or use a mag mount antenna inside of your house. This would increase your radio power and coverage.
