RG-8X vs. RG-8U coax?

RG-8x is 1/4'' and RG-8u is 1/2'', big difference. Seems that after some research that the larger RG-8u preforms better.
The answer depends on what you are trying to do. RG-8 has less loss per 100' than RG58. of course RG-8u is a larger diameter cable as well. Under 30 feet there isn't a significant performance difference.
If you are looking at mobile mounts, i am assuming you are planning to run the cable in your vehicle. In that case RG-58 is a much better choice because of its size and flexibility. For a more permeant building mount, you are better off with RG-8u if the run is any significant length.
